Order a Mac Restore Drive for Windows

    Article summary

Backblaze Computer Backup Restore drives are formatted as a hierarchical file system+ (HFS+) for restores that you make from a Mac computer. Restores that you make from a Windows computer are formatted as new technology file systems (NTFS). If you need to use your Mac-formatted restore drive on a Windows machine, format the drive as NTFS because Windows cannot read an HFS+ drive. To do this, create a restore as a B2 Snapshot and order the Snapshot drive as an NTFS drive.

    Note
This can be done only for restores that are larger than 10 GB. This is not required when requesting downloadable ZIP restores or Snapshots.

Create an NTFS Snapshot Drive Restore

Before you begin: You must enable Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage.

    1. Sign in to the Backblaze web console.
    2. In the left navigation menu under Computer Backup, click Overview.
    3. Locate the computer that you want to restore, and click Restore.
    4. Select Save Files to B2 as the restore method.
    5. Scroll to the file viewer at the bottom of the page, and set the time frame for the files that you want to restore.
    6. Click Go.
    7. Select the files that you want to restore, and click Continue with Restore.
You are directed to the Snapshots page. The time it takes to build your Snapshot depends on the size of the restore that you created.
    8. Select the Snapshot(s) that you want to restore.
    9. Select USB Hard Drive, and click Retrieve Snapshot.
    10. Select Windows NTFS, and click Go to Payment.
After you enter your payment details, your drive is ordered.
    Note
The Snapshot that you create remains in your account until you delete it. This incurs Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage storage fees, and you must pay for storage. You can remove the Snapshot ZIP file from your account after you receive your Snapshot drive to avoid a monthly Backblaze B2 charge.
