Add Backblaze to Windows Defender Allowances

Security programs like Windows Defender can incorrectly identify the Backblaze Computer Backup program as malware. This can cause installation failures or malfunctions. You can add Backblaze to the Windows Defender's white list to prevent Windows Defender from blocking Backblaze.

Add Backblaze to the Windows Defender's White List

1. Open Windows Defender Security Center.
2. In the left menu, select Firewall & network protection.
3. Under Public network, click Allow an app through firewall.
4. Select Change settings, and click Allow another app.
5. Click Browse.
6. Locate the bztransmit.exe file or the bztransmit64.exe file.
   • Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Backblaze\bztransmit.exe
   • Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Backblaze\bztransmit.exe
   • Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10 64-bit and 11: C:\Program Files (x86)\Backblaze\x64\bztransmit64.exe and C:\Program Files (x86)\Backblaze\bztransmit64.exe
7. Click Add.
8. Repeat the above for files bztrans64_thread00 - bztrans64_thread19 and again for bztrans_thread00 - bztrans_thread19.
9. Ensure that both Private and Public are selected, and click Okay.
