Each new installation of the Backblaze Backup Client creates a unique ID and backup. This prevents a new installation or reinstallation of the Backup Client from accidentally overwriting an existing backup. This new installation runs as a 15-day trial and begins a new initial backup. When this trial is nearing expiration, you receive an alert.
Transfer a License or Inherit a Backup State to Resolve an Expired Trial
Complete one of the following procedures depending on your use case:
- To delete an old backup and free the paid license, see Transfer a License.
- To inherit the original backup and license from the new installation, see Inherit a Backup State.
Verify your Email Address
If the above actions do not resolve the licensing, complete the following procedure.
- Locate the email address with which you installed the Backup Client.
- Sign in to the Backblaze web console with the email address that you located in the Backup Client.
- Verify whether the computer is displayed and whether there is an unused license.
If you are unable to sign in, the subscription may have been paid with a different email address. Try alternate email addresses.
