Resolve a Synchronization Error

If the following conditions are true, you may receive the error After synchronizing with the Backblaze datacenter, this machine is still not licensed.

• You have a Backblaze Computer Backup license.
• You uninstalled and reinstalled the Backup Client, or you reinstalled the Backup Client on a new system.
• You are running a 15-day trial.
• You clicked the Already bought? Click here link on the client preferences/control panel.

Each new installation of the Backup Client creates a unique ID and backup. This prevents a new installation or reinstallation of the Backup Client from accidentally overwriting an existing backup. 

There are a few solutions to license the new installation. You should choose the option that best works for your specific case.

Delete the Original Backup

You can delete the originally backed-up data, and then use the license on the new installation. This removes the previous backup in totality, so you should create a restore before you delete the computer. You can then transfer your license to the new installation.

By deleting the previous backup and using the license, it is simple and fast to get the new installation uploaded and licensed. However, you must upload all of the data again, but it will be a smaller footprint for the installation.

Inherit a Backup State

You can inherit an existing backup and license from the current trial installation under the same account.

The "transfer a backup state" option links your backup to the previously uploaded data and the license. You do not need to re-upload data that is already on the machine. However, if some backed-up data is missing from the machine when you transfer the backup state, you have 30 days from the last time that data was seen to restore it to the machine, or it will be removed from the backup.

Purchase a License

You can purchase another license for the newly installed machine and keep the previous backup.
