Computer Backup

Getting Started

Backblaze Computer Backup securely backs up and manages your clients’ data across their entire organization. It can easily be deployed and used to manage multiple customers by using Groups.

  1. Start by setting up an admin account and enabling Groups. Next, you will create a Group for each of your customers. You can either enter your payment information and purchase right away, or you can start with a 15-day free trial.
  2. Once you have created your first Group, you can add the organization’s employees via your preferred RMM tool, MSI installer, by sending an invitation email, or sharing a link.
  3. From your admin account, you can access individual accounts and install software and updates.

Billing

Backblaze Computer Backup is licensed per computer and is billed at $9 per month, $99 for a year, or $189 for two years. You can find detailed billing information on a per-group basis within your admin account so that you can separate billing per customer. For the lifetime of each license, you will earn 10% commission on Computer Backup sales.


By default, Backblaze retains a 30-day version history of your files, including modified and deleted files. For no additional charge, you can upgrade to one year of version history. You can also extend the retention times to “forever” for an additional fee. Read more about Extended Version History.

Commissions

The first step to receiving your commission is to register with our MSP Program by emailing salescontact@backblaze.com with: 

  • The email address associated with the admin account that you plan to use for managing your Groups account(s). This email address is considered your Master Account ID and is your Backblaze account for commission. Please note: Once you have purchased licenses for customers within Groups, you cannot change the email address managing those Groups. Changing the email address in the future will forfeit your commission accrued for Groups previously created and managed by the original email address.
  • Your reseller certificate.

Commissions are paid out monthly. Once you reach $100 in commission, you will get a payment from us. At this time, we can only issue payment to a valid PayPal email address. Payment cannot be sent via direct deposit. The 10% commission is only received on Computer Backup sales and does not apply to Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage sales. There are no minimum requirements in terms of sales quotas for any period of time.

Supporting Your Customers with Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage


While there is no commission program for Backblaze B2, the cloud storage innovator delivering a modern alternative to traditional cloud providers. However, you are welcome to charge your customers at the rate of your choosing. 

Standard B2 Cloud Storage pricing is approximately one-fifth the cost of AWS and 3x free egress monthly, with no sacrifice to performance.

Unlike our Computer Backup product, there is no client for Backblaze B2. There are several ways you can manage your B2 Cloud Storage including through the web UI, Backblaze Command Line Interface (CLI), or by using software from one of our integration partners. We integrate seamlessly with many leading industry software providers via the S3 Compatible API. Please see our Tech Docs for more information.

How to manage your Backblaze B2 customers with Backblaze Groups.

  1. Get started with Backblaze B2 by signing up.
  2. Enable Groups.
  3. Create a separate Group for each customer.
  4. Invite your customer to join your Group and create an account for them using an invite link. Visit the Invite/Approve page to accept your customer into your Group.
  5. Create a B2 Cloud Storage Bucket for your customer. The Bucket will be located within your customer's account that you will manage with your Group. Here is the recommended account management hierarchy:
    - Your Backblaze account
    - Customer Group
    - Customer account
    - Customer Bucket
  6. Provide your B2 Bucket name, Key ID, and Application Key in your integration software provider’s console and/or script to set Backblaze B2 as your destination.  
  7. Log in to your Backblaze account. Go to Account > Billing > Groups to track your customer's billing in order to determine your baseline cost per account so that you can determine pricing.

FAQs

Can I use Groups to support residential customers?

Yes.

Can I use Groups to manage Backblaze B2?

Yes.

How do I purchase prepaid licenses?

At the moment, Backblaze does not provide discounted prepaid licenses to partners. However gift codes can be purchased for $99 each for a one year subscription.

Can I get a commission for providing Backblaze B2?

No. We don't pay partners commissions on Backblaze B2. However, with pricing at one-fifth of AWS and 3x free egress per month, you are welcome to charge your customers at the rate of your choosing.

How much do I earn reselling Computer Backup?

You get paid 10% on all Computer Backup sales and will get a payment from us once you have accrued $100 in commission or $1000 in sales.

When do I get paid?

Once you reach the payout threshold of $100 in commission or $1000 in sales, you will be eligible to receive your payment at the end of the month.

What is Backblaze Computer Backup?

Backblaze Computer Backup, through its Groups functionality, is how MSPs, IT consultants, and computer repair shops provide Backblaze to their customers. Groups will allow you to centrally manage and pay for all of your customers. Your customer can have access to their data as well. If desired, you can pay for the account and restrict access so only the customer has access. You decide what the access privileges will be when you create the Group. Groups will provide you the following capabilities:

  1. Organization of your customers by Groups.
  2. Ability for both you and your customers to manage restores and backups.
  3. Ability to buy licenses as you go with no minimum requirements.
  4. Monthly or annual billing.
  5. 10% commission on all Computer Backup sales.

We also offer an Enterprise Control add-on featureset, which gives IT admins more control over endpoint backups. Enterprise Control costs an additional fee and, at this time, MSPs do not earn commission on this feature. But it is a robust add-on that makes Backblaze Computer Backup an easy sell to end users.

How can I track my sales?

Log in to your account, navigate to the Billing section on the lower left, and select Groups to see your sales organized by year.

How do I set up a Group?

  1. Create a Backblaze account.
  2. Sign in, navigate to My Settings and check the box marked Business Groups. You may need to verify your email address.
  3. Start creating Groups for each customer and adding their employees to each group via RMM tool, MSI installer, or invitation email, or a generated invite link.
  4. Set up payment for the Group.
  5. Send an email to salescontact@backblaze.com to register the email address for the account you'll be using to manage Groups. Registration must be made within three days in order to receive a 10% commission on Business Groups sales. We only need this master account email address—there's no need to provide Group information.

Does Backblaze Computer Backup allow me to white label the product?

No, at this time we do not allow white labeling Backblaze Computer Backup. 

What if I don't want to manage the customers’ accounts, but want to get paid for referring customers to Backblaze?

You can join our Affiliate Program to get paid for referrals without managing accounts. Payment details are the same—10% of the purchase price for the lifetime of the license, with a payment threshold of $100.

What is Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage?

Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage is our always-hot, S3 compatible cloud object storage service. It’s approximately one-fifth the cost of Amazon AWS and includes 3x free egress without compromising performance.

How do I set up Backblaze B2?

Get started with Backblaze B2 by signing up. Or, if you already have a Backblaze account you can log in and enable Backblaze B2 from the My Settings menu.

Can I use Groups to manage servers and NAS devices?

Yes, you can do so by using our cloud storage product, Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage, alongside one of our integration partners. Billing for Backblaze B2 can be managed from the same central admin portal, but is priced and charged differently from Backblaze Computer Backup. Commissions are only paid for Computer Backup sales.
