    Article summary

This article shows you how to resolve the error: The installer communicated with https://www.backblaze.com but some error occurred so installation failed. Your PREVIOUSLY installed Public/Private keys probably do not match. This error indicates that there is a problem with new keys or old keys that exist on the system causing a mismatch.

You may encounter this issue due to an expired security certificate. To resolve this issue, see Resolve Security Certificate Issues.

    Note

With the release of Backblaze Backup Client 8.5, Macs that run 10.13 and older do not support the implementation of a newer security library and you may receive an error. If possible, update your operating system (OS) to 10.14 or newer. If you cannot update your OS, run a version 8.0 installer to continue with the installation.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Backup Client

If you use macOS 10.12 or newer, continue with the following procedure.

    1. Reboot your computer to ensure that all of the Backblaze files are unlocked.
    2. Uninstall the Backup Client for your specific operating system.
    3. Install the Backup Client for your specific operating system.
    4. License the new installation by using the Inherit Backup State option or by transferring the license from your previous installation to this new backup.

It may take some time for the backup to complete the process and resume backing up.
