FAQ

For long-term storage, why should I care about Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval’s 90-day minimum storage duration policy?

If you delete, overwrite, or move objects to a different AWS storage class before the 90-day minimum period, be aware that the objects will be charged for 90 days of storage. This also means, if you move objects to a different storage class, you may be paying for Glacier Instant Retrieval and the new storage class concurrently for some period of time. Depending on your use case, this can result in significant cost. On the other hand, if you store every object unchanged for 90 or more days, the minimum storage duration policy will have no impact on you.

Am I understanding correctly that Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval charges both data retrieval and data egress fees?

Yes, depending on the circumstances, customers can incur both expenses when accessing and using data.
