Mac OS X 10.4 – Tiger End of Life

What is happening?

Backblaze has made the tough decision to stop supporting Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. As of February 1, 2013, Backblaze will no longer run on Mac computers running OSX 10.4 Tiger. Don’t worry though; we won’t let you go that easy.

Backblaze is committed to providing unlimited online backup to all of our customers, including those using Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. The best way to continue using Backblaze is to update to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, or a newer operating system. You can do this by calling the Apple Online Store at 1-800-MY-APPLE and ordering a copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or any subsequent operating systems. Alternatively, you can contact Backblaze support and we will coordinate with you to get you upgraded—for free. We will happily send you a free copy of Mac OS X 10.6 on a DVD which you can install on your Mac and continue being a Backblaze customer.

Why is this happening?

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger was discontinued by Apple in 2007, and the last security update provided by Apple was in 2009. With Apple’s discontinuation, it has become increasingly difficult to make new releases of Backblaze available to Mac OS X 10.4 customers due to lack of support by Apple; and as a 10.4 user, you’re missing out on many current features of Backblaze 2.0 and all future releases. We are here to get you upgraded so that you can benefit from these features, which include: Locate My Computer, faster upload speeds, and all of the great Backblaze 2.0 features!

We appreciate all of our customers, and it is very important to us to keep your data backed up! So if you’re currently using Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, let’s get you upgraded and rocking OS X 10.6 + Backblaze soon!
