Julie Weaves Her Way in to Backblaze

julie-in-datacenter

We keep hiring like crazy over in the Operations department, and our newest Data Center Tech is Julie! We knew Julie would be a great fit because even before getting hired, she built a gorgeous Backblaze Pod during her interview. Not only was it aesthetically pleasing, but it powered up reliably in its first test, and has been in production ever since! Thanks for an awesome Pod, Julie, we definitely needed it! Please welcome her to the Backblaze team, and here’s a little Q&A to get to know her better:

What is your Backblaze title?
Data Center Tech.

Where are you originally from?
I grew up outside of Marysville, CA and lived in San Francisco and Portland, OR before ending up back in the Sacramento area.

What attracted you to Backblaze?
It seemed like a great place to work where I’d be challenged to use both my hands and my brain. So far it’s been a lot of fun.

Where else have you worked?
I worked in a library for three years, where I developed a love for systems and organizing information. Other than that, I have mostly worked in design and production. Most recently, I made leather laptop bags at a small company in Nevada City, CA.

Where did you go to school?
I went to about a million community colleges (okay, more like three) before transferring to Pacific Northwest College of Art where I studied sculpture and textile design. I also attended exactly one day of massage school before I realized touching naked strangers was not my idea of fun.

Favorite hobby?
Right now I’m really in to weaving. Mostly I like making things and using power tools.

Favorite food?
PIZZA! Or maybe, CAKE! Definitely something that comes in slices.

We’ll be sure to keep the data center stocked with plenty of sliceable foods!
