Customers have often told us that they’d love a way to save data directly from their Backblaze Computer Backup account to B2 Cloud Storage. We’re happy to announce that with the 6.0 update, users can now save Snapshots directly to B2 from their backup account and retain the Snapshots for as long as they wish.

Backblaze Hard Drive Stats for 2018
We look at the hard drive failure rates for the data drive models in operation in our data centers in 2018 (now totaling over 750 petabytes and 100,000 drives). In addition, we’ll see how the new hard drive models we added during the year did, including our 12 TB HGST and 14 TB Toshiba drives.

This release for consumers and businesses brings a lot of new functionality to Backblaze Cloud Backup: Restore by Mail drives that are twice the size, archiving with Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage, up to 50% faster backups, and a network blocklist feature to help avoid data caps. All that plus more efficient and performant Mac and Windows applications along with mobile enhancements and SSO support with Google.

Conventional wisdom for Apache’s high-performance, scalable database has been to avoid wide partitions for risk of impacting database performance and storage limitations.
